More Artists Join Big Ears Line Up!

The Big Ears Festival is proud to announce new additions to the 2010 line up.

The enigmatic William Basinski, whose haunting and evocative “disintegration loops”, ambient compositions, and short films have mesmerized those who have had the opportunity to experience them, will be making a rare appearance in the United States.

The high energy improvisational trio, Konk Pack, will perform during the weekend. Comprised of multi-instrumentalist Tim Hodgkinson (founding member of the legendary Henry Cow), synthesizer virtuoso Thomas Lehn (“probably the world’s best synthesizer player” according to Jim O’Rourke), and percussionist extraordinaire Roger Turner (known for his work with Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, and a host of others), Konk Pack creates a richly detailed sonic experience that goes straight for the jugular.

Liturgy is at the forefront of the New American Black Metal movement, creating an intense and euphoric wall of sound both beautiful and brutal, drawing from the massive sonic minimalism of Glenn Branca, the obscured melodies of My Bloody Valentine, and the speed and power of Mayhem or Darkthrone.

There’s more to come that will be announced next week.

We’ll also unveil the expanded schedule of another 2 dozen or so shows at a variety of other Knoxville venues featuring the 802 Tour, the Ex, Gang Gang Dance, Javelin, DJ/rupture, Andy Moor, the Calder Quartet, Iva Bittova, Gyan Riley, Tim Hecker, Ben Frost, Buke + Gass, as well as William Basinski, Konk Pack, Liturgy and others.

Tickets for these shows will go on sale next week!

Tickets are currently on sale for Vampire Weekend, the National, Joanna Newsom, the xx, Terry Riley Quartet, Clogs, the Dirty Projectors, Bang on A Can All-Stars, Terry Riley’s In C, Brian Eno’s Music for Airports, the Books, St. Vincent, and My Brightest Diamond. Tickets may be purchased here.

A limited number of exclusive weekend passes – the Inner Ear Pass – offering access to all concerts and other events – are also still available.

Daily updates, details, and special information are available by following Big Ears on Twitter or at the Big Ears Festival Facebook page.

An expanded schedule of shows, along with more details about the festival performances, will be announced next week.

Until then…
